Amazon appears to be making strides towards making the Kindle a little more touchy-feely.
The digital reading giant has acquired a small New York startup called Touchco, which developed a technology to add a new style of touch sensitivity to screens, according to a person briefed on the matter.
The move comes as the Kindle faces increased competition both from other dedicated reading devices such as the Sony Reader and multi-purpose tablets like Apple’s forthcoming iPad – all of which offer a touch-screen interface. The current Kindle has to be controlled through buttons.
